The Arizona Cardinals are a professional American football team located in Glendale, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona. Beginning with the 2006 season, all home games will be played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale. In 1987, the Arizona Cardinals moved to Arizona from St. Louis, Missouri. From 1988 to 2005, the team used Tempe as its home court. The team is currently one of the West Division teams of the National Football League.
The Arizona Cardinals are one of the oldest American football teams in existence. [1][2][3] The team was founded in Chicago in 1898 as the Morgan Athletic Club. The team later changed its name to the Racine Normals when it played its home games at Normal Park. Many teams mistakenly believe that Racine is a city in Wisconsin. It was later renamed the Racine Cardinals. When the National Football League was formed in 1920, the team was renamed the Chicago Cardinals. During World War II in 1944, the team temporarily merged with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In 1960 the team moved to St. Louis, Missouri, and became the St. Louis Cardinals. When the team moved to Arizona, it was called the Phoenix Cardinals, and was finally renamed the Arizona Cardinals in 1994.
